When you hear about LG, the most common thought that first comes to anyone’s mind is manufacturing of electronic devices such as Television sets, phones, fridges and even washing machines; well the tech giant has just tapped into the laundry services in Nairobi Kenya – one of its kind in the whole of East Africa. LG opened a laundry shop in Kenya’s capital Nairobi eyeing the growing demand for washing services among low- and middle-income earners in the country.
The new shop which came as a result of partnership between LG and its sole distributor in the country – Hotpoint Appliance Limited will be located at Point Mall BuruBuru which is at the heart of low- and middle-income households within Nairobi’s Eastlands estates.
Cost of laundry services at LG’s shop in BuruBuru
Customers will pay Ksh. 600 for clothes weighing seven kilograms, including washing and drying them. Laundry can include duvets and bed sheets which are mostly charged from Ksh. 500 for a single piece. LG’s shop will therefore be relatively cheaper in comparison and is expected to attract many customers looking for affordable but quality services.
Speaking to Business Daily, LG Home Appliances (HA) marketing manager Eden Seo said the project took shape about a year ago after a series of feasibility studies. Mr. Seo further said the tech giant had investigated on what customers needed most which turned out to be purchasing a laundry machine but was hard.
Although all the equipment will be provided by LG, washing shops will be managed by franchisees with the company providing them with complete LG washer and dryer equipment installations and end-to-end business supports Mr Seo added. Hotpoint will be in charge of installations and franchise businesses.
