Huawei Y8p and Y6p available in Kenya for Ksh24,999 and Ksh14,999 respectively

Following a preorder period that lasted for a week starting sometimes last week, both Huawei Y8p and Y6p are now officially available for Ksh24,999 and Ksh14,999 respectively. Both devices offer unique price points that reflects their underlying specs targeting Kenyans either looking for a long-lasting battery on the cheaper model or a powerful rear camera on the slightly expensive model. During the preorder period, customers were offered various gift hampers with each purchase that included goodies worth more than Ksh3,000 on the Y6p and Ksh6,000 on the Y8p.

Both devices will be offered with a free Bluetooth headset for the first week and are now available across major electronic retail outlets across the country including online platform – Jumia Kenya. Huawei has increasingly become more aggressive and even went as far as breaking some estimates such as record number sales in wearables despite restrictions from using some of the US tech including Google’s play services. The company unveiled its own AppGallery that avails some of the popular android applications and gives users options to install apps from other sources.

Speaking on the launch, Huawei Mobile Kenya Country Head Jim Zhujie said the Y8p was more than just a middle tier device with its 48MP AI Triple Camera setup, solid performance with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and an impressive 6.3-inch OLED Huawei Dewdrop Display. Zhujie further said the cheaper Y6p model took a more performance focused approach with its 13MP main camera, 3GB of RAM and a big 6.3-inch HUAWEI Dewdrop display and a large 5000mAh battery.

Huawei Y8p’s standout feature is definitely the rear camera setup which comprises of a 48MP main camera, 8MP wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth camera for bokeh effects. The handset is said to take standout photos in low light shooting courtesy of its support for the Super Night Photography.

The Y6p packs a large 5000mAh battery that’s best suited for those users who do a lot more with their smartphones, requiring them to have a battery that is large enough to last for all their tasks. According to Huawei, the battery is large enough to provide up to 32 hours of video playback or even 20 hours of Internet surfing on a single charge.
