The galaxy grand has that huge screen anyone would die for, but it doesn’t add-up when it comes to screen resolution in comparison with its premium siblings such as the Galaxy S4 and close rivals like the LG Optimus G Pro. Unlike the S4 which has an impressive 441 pixels per inch and the Optimus G Pro’s 401 pixels per inch, Samsung Galaxy Grand I9082’s 480×800 pixels distribution only accounts for a measly 187ppi on its enormous 5.0inch panel. Physically, it’s a product of specific combinations from Samsung’s Galaxy S premium portfolio; the screen size is exactly similar to that of S4 while the chassis is no different to S3. The hardware closely resembles that of S2, but it has one thing you’d hardly get on the premium siblings – support for two sim cards.
It’s a case of mix and match which’s typical to Samsung’s sideshow products intended to please every nerd looking for a smart phone that has it all – well not totally all. There are two variants of the galaxy grand – grand duos has two sim card slots while the other grand has a single slot but identical in all other aspects. The Grand Duos comes in handy if you are that kind of person who travels often to other countries or just want to keep both your work and personal phone lines tidily discrete. It allows for two sim cards from different providers to stay active on the same handset – meaning you’ll hardly miss promos and offers from your preferred two operators. Its 5inch panel seems impressive at a glance – the kind of size you’d wish to have but then it’s also the weakest point of this handset. It may have the looks of S4 and styling of S3, but 187ppi screen resolution respectively places it within mid-range devices which’s far below even the first galaxy S.
Elsewhere, Samsung Galaxy Grand I9082 Duos doesn’t compromise on areas that count, underneath is a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM, it’s not as impressive as that of its premium siblings but costs lesser giving it a heads-up for a slot on the shortlist. As usual, the 5inch screen takes a huge chunk of the front panel except for Samsung’s logo at the top with a 2 megapixels front facer for video charts beside it and a physical button at the bottom. On the back cover is an 8.0 megapixels camera and an LED flash capable of recording full HD video clips. Unlike the S4 which comes in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB variations, there’s no variation on the internal storage as all devices have 8GB onboard memory which can be beefed-up with a MicroSD card of up to 64GB.
