Nokia Lumia 710 Windows Phone Review

For a device in its genre, Nokia Lumia 710 is a big contender considering all the flourished specs that come on-board. This handset goes toe-to-toe with Samsung’s Omnia M S57530, both run on easy-to-use Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, have the same 800x480p screen resolution, same 5.0Megapixel camera; though Nokia Lumia 710 boasts of a superior 1.4GHz processor compared to Omnia M’s 1GHz but its TFT screen doesn’t match Omnia M S57530’s Super-AMOLED panel. Basically, it depends on what you’re looking for in a handset that’ll separate the two devices suitability. From a layman’s perspective, Nokia Lumia 710’s clock speed has a better performance ratio compared to Omnia M; however, the difference between the two screen technologies is like day and night, so you’d better decide on your preferences first before you’re in a limbo. I wouldn’t say Nokia Lumia 710 is the sleekest handset we’ve seen; however, it’s easy to use and Microsoft’s software makes it even more responsive than most rivals.

Distinguishing the two devices further is their screen sizes, while Omnia M comes with a whooping 4.0inch panel, Nokia Lumia settled for a modest 3.8inch screen which’s neither too small nor too big in our perspective. Lumia 710’s front panel is dominated by a 3.8inch screen except for the big plastic key housing buttons sitting below it. Its enclosure is mostly plastic except for the rubberized back cover featuring obligatory rounded corners which’s reminiscence of the Lumia family. There’s a choice of two variants, black or white both featuring interchangeable back-plates in five colors: yellow, cyan, black, magenta or white, a reminder of Nokia’s prominence days. The handset felt sturdy and nested perfectly in our palm’s courtesy of the rounded and rubberized backplate. At 12.5mm thick, Nokia Lumia 710 is not the slimmest device we’ve seen, however, it’s lighter than most devices in this arena which counts in its favor.
The capacitive LCD screen has a middling 800x480p screen resolution which is typical of most Windows Phone devices. Despite not having an AMOLED display like its sibling Lumia 800, the screen is still bright and colors are vivid courtesy of Nokia’s own ClearBlack technology, although not as vibrant as AMOLED counterparts. There’s a 5.0Megapixel camera at the back, though an 8.0MP snapper looked more appropriate. We acknowledge the importance of a dedicated camera button; however, its tad spongy and you’ll never guess when the camera will snap. To get a decent focus of your object, you’ll need to push lightly on the button until the desired picture is in focus then squeeze further to capture the image, could be an issue unless you’ve the lightest touch.
