We’ve previously seen Nokia manage to come up with affordable handsets housed with workable specs, but were rather disappointed on Nokia Asha 306. Apart from the looks, there’s little to admire on this handset considering its EUR160 price tag. There’s a built-in Wi-Fi adapter, but that’s not the point, most devices within this price range have it, contrary to our expectations, you’ll have to deal with a resistive touch screen rather than an almost standard capacitive panel. There are several flaws associated with resistive displays of which you can research on later; the point is capacitive screens are way better. A 3.0inch screen on Nokia Asha 306 is big enough at least, but a low resolution again waters down this benefit; icons and small text appear more pixilated than rivals. The phone is light though and can fit in those skinny jeans without a hitch. We also expect prices to come down in the near future, but that’s just a wish, it can go either side.
Unlike its twin sibling
Asha 311, Nokia Asha 306 does not support a 3G radio; you’re therefore capped at 2G internet speed limits. Something that we found interesting on this device was the availability of four different colors to choose from, the design is also far from worst; most folks will find it better than close rivals. A 3.0inch screen occupies most of the front panel except for two joined hardware keys below it, the back-side houses a 2.0MP camera and we found its rounded edges appealing. The volume up/down keys and the lock button are located on the right-side of the phone, most users will find them friendly. The 10MB internal memory is hardly enough to store multi-media files; you’ll therefore factor in the price of a MicroSD card of up to 32GB. Despite a minimal 2.0MP camera,
Nokia Asha 306 can capture viewable shots taken on a broad daylight; there‘s no led flash for darker conditions. Generally, the design is impressive, most users can live with it, but there are not enough specs to warrant our recommendation.
There’s no information on the processor resting underneath, this can only mean one thing; it lacks enough horse-power to feature in the proprietary documentations. We were pleased with a Wi-Fi functionality, you can at least share internet from a wireless router. Based on the given specs, we expect an 1110mAh battery to last within a reasonable timeline. To our surprise, other Asha siblings with a QWERTY keypad like 300 have better specs than Nokia Asha 306; Asha 300 is powered by 1GHz processor and has a 5.0 Megapixel camera which is a pleasant surprise considering everything else. The internal 140MB memory is also usable.
