The long awaited LG P970 Optimus Black Android smart phone has now been officially unveiled in Kenya a day after Nokia introduced its Nokia 100 and 101 range of entry level cell phones in Nairobi Kenya. It is yet unknown whether LG intentionally planned for this to happen considering criticisms directed to Nokia for taking the African market lightly; at the same time Nokia was having this event in Kenya, elsewhere in Hong Kong the same company was unveiling its latest Nokia 600, 701 and 700 smart phones featuring the latest Symbian Belle operating system. After the official entrance of LG P970 Optimus Black in Kenya, Nokia should trade carefully especially after Huawei Samsung and Sony Ericsson started an aggressive campaign for their smart devices in the region.
Although LG P970 Optimus Black has taken awhile since its initial announcement way back in January to arrive in Kenya, most analysts appear to concur with its timing especially when Kenyan consumers are increasingly demanding for data services and major service providers have started offering
3G Services. LG P970 Optimus Black has enjoyed a reasonable market share since it was announced with its unique distinctive stylish slim design measuring only 9.2mm thick. According to LG’s Regional Marketing Manager East and Central Africa, the P970 Optimus Black Android device is already available in major electronic stores in Kenya retailing at only Kshs.40,000. It has a Nova display panel reduces the total amount of power consumed up to 50 percent compared to other conventional smart phones.
Unlike the Amoled display screen commonly used by Samsung on its devices, Nova consumes twice less power making it the most energy efficient
technology in the industry. As the world is ushering in the new Android era, LG P970 Optimus Black is anticipated to attract more fans considering an extensive market of Android applications; it comes with Android v2.2 Froyo which can be upgraded to v2.3 Gingerbread. What I love most about this device is its 5.0-megapixel rear camera and additional 2.0-megapixel front facing camera essentially for making video calls; on top of that, LG P970 Optimus Black boasts of an enhanced 1GHz Cortex processor and an impressive 2GB internal storage capacity which can also be expanded by an external MicroSD card of up to 32GB.
