Safaricom Bonga Points Rewards (Redeemable Prizes)

Safaricom’s Bonga points loyalty reward scheme is by far the most successful in the country; unlike other service providers who give Airtime as their only redeemable prize, with as low as 2,500 Bonga points, subscribers are eligible to redeem prizes ranging from mobile phones to broadband modems. Gauging from subscribers perspective of Safaricom’s products, Bonga Points program is seen as the second big thing after Mpesa that Safaricom has ever offered. Several touches here and there after the introduction of Bonga Points has seen the program become even more flexible and sensible to subscribers; as of now, Safaricom subscribers can share or trade Bonga Points with a touch of a button and its more secure after the introduction of pin protection, so no one can steal your Points. This program is available to both prepaid and postpaid customers who may opt in by a onetime on-phone registration process.

Each Ksh.10 spent on calls, data and SMS is worth one Bonga point. Currently, there’s an offer on the widely popular Huawei Ideos U8150 phone where subscribers with 10,000 points have the option of adding only Kshs.3,499 to get a brand new Ideos instead of the standard 7,999 retail price. And incase you don’t have enough points, you can ask your friends and family to transfer their points to you by dialing *126*4# then enter recipients mobile number, amount of points to transfer then press ok or use the USSD method by dialing *126# and following instructions.  There are two redemption matrices for Safaricom subscribers; Merchandise matrix and non Merchandise matrix.

  • Alcatel OT 306 (GPRS) : 5,500 Points
  • Nokia C1-01 (EDGE) : 9,000 Points
Bonga Points Rewards: Merchandise Matrix (1,000 to 10,000 points);
  • Nokia X2-01 : 15,000 Points
  • Huawei Ideos (3G) : 17,000 Points
  • Huawei Modem E1820 (21Mbps) : 18,000
  • Alcatel OT880 : 20,000 Points
Bonga Points Rewards: Merchandise Matrix (21,000 to 60,000 points);
  • Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 (3G) : 30,000 Points
  • BlackBerry 8520 (3G) : 45,000 Points
  • Nokia C6 (3G) : 55,000 Points

    The phones are there but the attendants say the ones on offer are out of stock. what does it take to restock?
