Not everything on Bold 9790 is typical to the rest of BlackBerry devices out there, it’s a hybrid phone courtesy of a small capacitive touch-screen. The phone comes with RIM’s BlackBerry 7 operating system underneath, which’s out-dated and disappointing if you’re not a diehard, you’ll be better-off with an iPhone or Android handset where you can access apps galore. Having said that, BlackBerry Bold 9790 can’t be demonized in entirety and it would tantamount to untruthfulness trying to do so, as some specs are worth appreciating. It has a solid build quality and feels sturdy enough to escape damages from minor accidents.
Amidst launching a new operating system in the course of the year, BlackBerry fans are better-off waiting for the latest platform as an upgrade isn’t always guaranteed. Despite RIM’s platform struggling against iOS and Android, it has stunning messaging features that comes onboard BlackBerry Bold 9790, but rates poorly in apps galore. LG Prada 3.0/K2/P940with a similar price range. The Bold 9790 has a diminutive 2.45inch capacitive screen with a resolution of 480×360 pixels, about 246ppi pixel density, which is enough to promise sharp/crisp text and images, larger screens at the same resolution will appear over-pixilated.
Email and messaging have been BlackBerry’s center of excellence for years, and as you’d expect, BlackBerry Bold 9790 comes with all messaging features, you can link your Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoomail accounts on the go. Social networks such as Twitter and Facebook are well catered for; in fact, you can connect Facebook with your BlackBerry calendar and contacts. A 1.0GHz single-core processor underneath isn’t the snappiest we’ve seen, however, it’s enough to afford faster menus and undemanding apps. It has a fairly smaller design that feels plasticky but retains that professional touch, there’s a chrome trim on the edges but finished with a rubberized, gun metal back plate that happily sits on the palm.
